spectrUM Discovery Area
Inspire youth across Montana to pursue higher education and careers in STEM fields.

Your gift to the UM Foundation in support of spectrUM Discovery Area helps inspire youth across Montana to pursue higher education and careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The spectrUM Discovery Area, UM’s award-winning science center, motivates youth across Montana to explore science and the world around them and inspires the next generation of scientists, problem solvers and creative thinkers. Your gift enables the spectrUM Discovery Area to deliver hands-on science opportunities to youth at our new location in the Missoula Public Library, where we offer free admission for all.

Your generosity helps the spectrUM Discovery Area:

  • Bring science educators, exhibits and role models to EmPower Place, a free learning center embedded in the Missoula Food Bank and Community Center, serving over 18,000 youth and families in need each year.
  • Deliver Science on Wheels, a traveling science program that transforms school gymnasiums and public libraries into hands-on science museums, reaching rural and tribal communities across the state of Montana.
  • Provide Science for All Scholarships to allow over 50 low-income students to participate in spectrUM’s summer camp at low or no cost.
  • Support special traveling exhibits on our museum floor, including exhibits like Life on the Edge, which made its first stop on its national tour in Missoula.
  • Maintain our community partnership with SciNation on the Flathead Reservation, which brings a free Science Learning Tent to the Arlee Esypaqeyni Celebration and the Elmo Standing Arrow Powwows annually, engaging over 1,500 youth with local role models and interactive science exhibits.

Thank you for supporting UM during The Big Give. When we give — all together UM — we change lives. We change the world. We rise up together.
